Litigation
Litigation is conducted by Stephen Davies with over 30 years of experience as a qualified solicitor.

Costs of litigation

We will assess your case for a £300 fixed fee initially and provide you with a view of the merits and the potential costs.
If the matter is undefended, we will expect the costs to be in the region of £1500.00 if the matter settles amicably within 6 months.
If the matter is defended and we have to issue proceedings the total costs could range from £10000 to £20000.00 and in some cases more. We would give you regular updates if the costs are likely to be more.

Court fees start at £115.00 to issue a summons and after this are 5% of the amount claimed. You should get this back if you are successful.

If the matter goes to trial, barristers charge in the region of £3000 for each day of the trial.
The figures will vary depending on the issues I.e. the person you are suing blaming someone else.
It will also depend on the number of people involved and the complexity and if any experts will need to give evidence.

These figures are based on an hourly rate of £200 per hour and based on the number of hours we would expect to spend dealing with the matter at these stages.

With litigation and contentious probate
If the matter is agreed then we could settle the matter within 3 months, if the matter proceeds to court it can take 12 to 18 months.

Divorce

This is carried out by the director Stephen Davies one of the directors with over 30 years of experience as a solicitor.
We charge a fixed price just for the divorce of £400 plus VAT. we do not deal with the financial aspects of divorce or dealing with child contact issues.
We would expect the divorce to go through within 6 months of the papers being submitted to the court. if there are children, it will take longer for the Court to review.

Probate

To apply for probate, we charge from £1500 to £2000 to apply for the grant. The work is carried out by Stephen Davies here, a solicitor with 30 years of experience. We try and give an affixed price based on the number of hours it would take to collate the estate.
The fee will depend on how many creditors or debtors there are.

We prefer to provide a fixed price however if the matter is complex, we will charge an hourly rate of £200 per hour and endeavor to give you an estimate at the beginning as to the total costs.

The probate registry fees are £155.00.

The costs can increase depending on the number of creditors and debtors to deal with, the number of beneficiaries, and if the estate is taxable.
Once we have assessed the estate we apply for probate. The applications are taking 4-6 months to be dealt with by the probate registry.

Contested Probate work

We will assess your case for £300 fixed fee initially and provide you with a view on the merits and the potential costs
If the matter is undefended, we will expect the costs to be in the region of £1500.00 if the matter settles amicably within 6 months
If the matter is defended and we have to issue proceedings the total costs could range from £10000 to £20000.00 and in some cases more. We would give you regular updates if the costs are likely to be more.

For probate we estimate the total at £1500 – £2000 plus disbursements and VAT
For debt collection £1500 – £2000 plus VAT
However, if the matter is defended this will be additional, we will give 6 monthly updates advising you.

Wills
We charge £150 including VAT for each Will.

Powers of Attorney
We charge a fixed price of £300 plus VAT plus the disbursement of £82.00 payable to the office for the public guardian.
As for total costs, these are usually £1500 to £2000

If you are purchasing

We need the sales pack in from the seller before we can request searches.
We would then order searches (these can take 2-4 weeks and longer if the property is new).
We would then raise enquiries (questions about the property to the seller) these are usually returned within 7 – 21 days depending on the complexity.
Please expect this process to take a little longer if the property is leasehold because there is more paperwork.

If you are selling

When we have the paperwork in, we send out the sales pack.
Please remember the purchase will be taking the above action which is why you may have to wait for that process to finish.
If you are selling leasehold, we recommend you request the management pack or LPE1 from the management company as soon as possible because it will be asked for.

Complaints Procedure
